UK Launches E-Visas for Pakistani Travellers
Pakistanis travelling to the UK can now get e-visas. The British High Commission announced this update on Wednesday. Successful applicants will receive confirmation by email. This replaces the old system of physical stickers in passports.
How the New System Works
The UK first introduced e-visas for Pakistanis in July 2025. However, that system only covered study or work visas. General visitor visa applicants still needed physical visas. Now, nearly all visitors can use the new e-visa service.
Applicants will still apply online as before. They must also attend a visa centre to provide biometrics. After approval, they receive a digital record through an online UK Visas and Immigration account. Therefore, applicants no longer need to visit the centre twice. They keep their passport after the biometrics session.
Benefits of the Digital System
E-visas offer a more secure way to manage immigration status. They reduce the risk of lost or damaged documents. Applicants can generate a share code to prove their visa status. They can use this at borders and other places. Importantly, visa processing times remain the same. Eligibility criteria and conditions have not changed either.
Official Reaction
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott called this a “hugely exciting step”. She emphasized that travellers save time by holding onto their passports. The new share code system makes proving visa status easier than ever.
In a video message on X, Marriott explained the major difference. Travellers now keep their passports with them. They no longer need a second visit to collect documents. She confirmed that application timelines remain unchanged.
Background on Digital Transition
The UK announced its move to a fully digital immigration system in 2024. The goal is to replace all physical documents with an online system. This latest update for Pakistanis is part of that broader transition.nerate share codes. Process times unchanged🇬🇧🇵🇰 #UKEvisa #Pakistan #UKVisas #TravelUpdate
