UK Launches Electric Air-Taxi Trial Between Oxford and Cambridge

UK aviation leaders have launched the OxCam AAM Corridor project to test electric air-taxis between Oxford and Cambridge. The six-month trial marks a major step toward cleaner and faster regional travel.

Testing the Future of Flight

The project will explore how electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft can work in real-world conditions. It will study commercial, safety, and operational aspects. As a result, the findings will guide a regional rollout planned for the end of 2028.
In addition, a piloted eVTOL demonstration is set for 2026 at Skyports’ Bicester Vertiport. This flight will be the first of its kind from a vertiport in the UK. Aviation experts believe it will showcase how electric aircraft can fit into existing airspace safely and efficiently.

A Step Toward Sustainable Travel

The project aligns with the Civil Aviation Authority’s new eVTOL Delivery Model, which defines the path to future commercial operations. Therefore, it plays a key role in shaping how electric air mobility will expand nationwide.
If successful, these air-taxis could cut travel time between Oxford and Cambridge dramatically. More importantly, they will offer sustainable, zero-emission transport while supporting regional economic growth and improving connectivity.
This trial shows the UK’s strong commitment to cleaner skies and smarter mobility solutions.
