Valheim, the Viking-inspired survival hit, is finally coming to PlayStation in 2026. Developer Iron Gate Studio confirmed the news, revealing that Sony fans will soon be able to explore the popular co-op game for the first time.
Initially launched in Early Access for PC in 2021, Valheim became an overnight sensation, selling over 3 million copies in its first month. Since then, sales have climbed to over 12 million worldwide. The game eventually expanded to Xbox and Game Pass in 2023, but PlayStation owners were left waiting until now.
Co-founder Henrik Törnqvist expressed excitement about broadening the player base, stating the team is eager for more gamers to “create stories in the Viking world of Valheim.” While Iron Gate has not confirmed an exact release date, the PlayStation launch is expected sometime in 2026, possibly alongside the 1.0 version planned for spring. It remains uncertain if the PS5 release will arrive before or at the same time as the full launch.
Recent updates continue to refine Valheim’s gameplay. The “Call to Arms” update introduced new features like Adrenaline, a resource tied to combat actions that unlocks trinket-based perks when charged. Additional content included customizable trinkets, wooden practice weapons for safe sparring, and general combat improvements.
Looking forward, players are anticipating the Deep North biome, billed as the final major content update before 1.0. This icy region will feature seals, new resources, and powerful enemies designed to challenge even experienced Vikings.
With its blend of exploration, building, and survival mechanics, Valheim remains one of the most beloved co-op experiences of the decade. Bringing the game to PlayStation ensures an even larger community will join the adventure when it sails onto Sony platforms next year.
