Wallet Aid Rollout: PM Shehbaz Pushes Digital Ramazan Support and Solar Power
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced major reforms to improve the Ramazan relief programme for deserving families. He directed ministries to distribute subsidy funds through digital wallets to protect dignity. This approach will reduce long queues and public exposure. As a result, beneficiaries will receive timely and respectful support through secure channels.
Digital Ramazan Support System
The prime minister chaired a meeting to review the proposed Ramazan package and assess last year’s performance. Officials presented findings from an independent audit firm. The report confirmed transparency and proper fund utilisation. However, the prime minister stressed that more families must benefit this year.
Shehbaz Sharif said corruption in Utility Stores had deprived people of their rightful assistance for decades. Therefore, the government replaced the old system with direct financial support. Under the Benazir Income Support Programme, a Social Protection Wallet will support this effort. Eligible individuals will receive SIM cards linked to the system.
From March 2026, all assistance payments will transfer digitally. This change will also support the national goal of a cashless economy. In addition, the State Bank of Pakistan will assist with smooth and secure distribution.
Solar Power and Strong Oversight
The prime minister also addressed electricity challenges in remote regions. He directed authorities to convert loss-making feeders to solar power. This move will reduce financial losses and ensure uninterrupted supply. Pilot projects will begin in Pesco and Qesco areas.
He emphasised cooperation among local communities, provincial governments, and the federal government. Officials will also develop a digital dashboard for monitoring. As a result, the government aims to deliver inclusive, transparent, and sustainable public support.
