Weekly Inflation Spike Pakistan: Food and LPG Prices Surge
Pakistan faces a weekly inflation spike as essential prices climb again. The latest data highlights growing pressure on everyday budgets. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, inflation rose 0.97 percent for the week ending March 26. As a result, many families now struggle to manage daily expenses.
Food and LPG Prices Drive the Increase
Rising food and fuel costs pushed prices higher this week. For example, onions jumped by 18 percent, while tomatoes rose 11.38 percent.
In addition, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) increased by 10.05 percent. Chicken prices also climbed by 8.70 percent, and potatoes rose by 8.11 percent. Therefore, basic kitchen items became more expensive.
More Essentials See Price Hikes
Several other items also recorded steady increases. Electricity charges for the first usage slab rose by 6.11 percent. Meanwhile, eggs increased by 3.54 percent, and garlic rose by 3.23 percent. Meat prices followed the trend, with mutton up 2.55 percent and beef rising 1.52 percent. Small increases also appeared in georgette fabric and firewood. Although these changes were minor, they still added to overall costs.
Some Relief in Select Items
However, not all prices moved upward. A few items offered slight relief to consumers.
Banana prices dropped by 4.50 percent, while wheat flour fell by 1 percent. Sugar also eased by 0.29 percent. In addition, small declines appeared in gur, pulse moong, and IRRI rice. These changes provided limited but welcome support.
Mixed Trends Across the Market
The overall trend shows a mixed pattern in price movements. Out of 51 tracked items, 23 recorded increases. Meanwhile, six items saw price drops, and 22 remained unchanged. As a result, inflation remains uneven but widespread across sectors.
