Punjab Approves Major Increase in Head Teacher Allowance

The government has announced a Merit Pay Reform for public schools. The move aims to reward dedication and improve learning outcomes. As a result, school leadership now receives stronger financial support.

Merit Pay Reform Supports School Leadership

Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat shared the update in an official statement. He explained that selected head teachers will receive higher incentives. This change links rewards directly with performance. Under the new plan, eligible leaders can earn between Rs.5,000 and Rs.10,000 monthly. However, selection depends on transparent criteria. Therefore, only qualified and committed professionals benefit.

Fair Compensation for Survey Duties

In addition, the government addressed long-standing concerns from educators. Many had worked on socio-economic surveys during holidays. However, they did not receive timely compensation. Authorities have now approved daily payments for this work. Educators assigned duties on Sundays or public holidays will receive Rs.4,000 per day. For example, this includes survey work managed by the Punjab Urban Unit. Officials acted after receiving multiple complaints. Therefore, departments have received written instructions to release payments quickly. The goal is to avoid further delays and frustration. This step promotes fairness and respect for professional effort. It also recognizes that educators contribute beyond classrooms. As a result, morale across schools is expected to improve.
The Merit Pay Reform reflects a broader focus on accountability. It encourages growth while valuing time and effort equally. In the long term, such steps may strengthen the education system.By combining incentives with fair compensation, the policy sends a clear message. Educators matter, and their work deserves recognition. The Merit Pay Reform marks progress toward a more supportive environment.
