KP to Introduce Ethics as New Subject in School Curriculum
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government plans to introduce ethics as a new subject in schools. Chief Minister Sohail Afridi shared the announcement during a visit to a government school in Peshawar. He highlighted the need to balance education with character building. As a result, students will gain both knowledge and strong values.
Ethics to Strengthen School Education
The chief minister said education should go beyond textbooks. He explained that training shapes responsible and principled individuals. Therefore, ethics will help students make better life choices. It will also encourage respect, fairness, and social responsibility.
During the visit, he spoke directly with teachers and students. He appreciated their efforts and stressed continuous improvement. In addition, he urged school administrations to focus on learning outcomes. According to him, quality education remains the government’s top priority.The chief minister also announced strict measures to improve school safety. He directed authorities to install CCTV cameras in all public schools. He said officials must complete this task without delay. Moreover, he instructed departments to provide missing facilities on a priority basis.
Focus on Facilities and Higher Education
The chief minister emphasized timely access to learning materials. He directed officials to ensure free textbooks reach students at the start of the next academic session. As a result, families will face less financial pressure.He also spoke about expanding higher education in the province. Last month, he announced plans to establish two new universities. These include Arshad Sharif University and another institution in the Khyber tribal district. However, he acknowledged existing financial challenges.Despite constraints, he assured continued investment in education. He said the government would address weaknesses in public sector schools. Therefore, teachers and administrators must work together to raise standards.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to education reform. He said strong values and quality learning can shape a better future for everyone.
