TV Drama Highlights Bereaved Mum’s Fight for Online Justice
A new TV drama will tell the story of a bereaved mother’s fight for online justice. The series focuses on Ellen Roome and her campaign after her son’s death. Ellen Roome lives in Cheltenham and lost her son, Jools, in 2022. An inquest ruled he died by suicide. However, Ellen believes an online challenge played a role. Since then, she has pushed for answers and accountability.
As a result, her campaign has now attracted TV producers. The drama will explore her struggle to access her son’s social media data. In addition, it will show the emotional toll behind her public work. Ellen says people often see her strength in interviews. However, they do not see the grief and isolation she faced at home. She describes moments of deep pain and helplessness. Therefore, her fight became a way to stand back up and seek truth.
Campaigning for Jools’ Law
After Jools’ death, Ellen faced major barriers accessing online data. For example, platforms did not automatically preserve information. She fears crucial evidence may have disappeared forever. Because of this, she began campaigning for Jools’ Law. Jools’ Law calls for automatic data preservation after a child’s death. It also demands clear access for coroners and grieving families.
In December, Ellen signed a life-rights agreement with Featuristic Films. The company plans a six-part drama based on her journey. Meanwhile, a separate documentary is also in koi production. Both projects aim to protect Children and support parents. Ellen admits reliving the experience will be painful.
Still, she hopes no parent will ever face the same struggle. Police are reviewing new evidence submitted by investigators. Meanwhile, the government says online platforms must cooperate with coroners.
