Bluesky Germ integration brings encrypted chat to social app
The Bluesky Germ integration introduces encrypted chat directly inside the social platform. Users can now send secure messages without leaving the app. As a result, private conversations feel seamless and simple. Germ Network built this new feature. It becomes the first private messenger to launch natively within Bluesky. Therefore, users no longer need external links in bios. Germ also released guidance for other apps using the AT Protocol. This move encourages more developers to build secure tools. In addition, it shows how open networks support community innovation.
How encrypted chat works inside Bluesky
To start a conversation, tap the badge on a profile. An iOS App Clip opens instantly. Then log in with your AT Protocol handle and send a message. Unlike many apps, Germ does not require a phone number. Instead, it connects directly through AT Protocol. As a result, messages stay encrypted and private. Germ uses Messaging Layer Security, a modern encryption standard. The company says neither it nor Bluesky can decrypt messages. That approach strengthens user trust.
After the integration announcement
Germ’s daily active users increased fivefold. Meanwhile, its standalone iOS beta continues in North America and Europe. Germ was founded by Tessa Brown and Mark Xue. Xue previously worked on privacy tools at Apple. Together, they focus on secure and user-friendly communication.
Looking ahead, the team plans to add everyday messaging features. However, paid options may arrive later for creators and journalists. For now, the goal remains clear: make private messaging accessible for everyone.
