Threads Instagram Story Sharing Update Boosts Growth

Threads Story sharing just became easier for millions of users. Meta now lets people share posts to Instagram Stories without leaving Threads. As a result, sharing feels faster and smoother. This update helps Meta grow Threads even more. The platform already has over 400 million monthly users. However, Instagram has a much larger audience. Now, users can preview how their post will look in Stories inside the app. Therefore, they save time and avoid switching between apps. In addition, the feature keeps the experience simple and seamless. Previously, people could share posts to Stories, Feed, or DMs. However, they had to move between apps. This change removes that extra step.
Threads launched in July 2023. From the start, it connected closely with Instagram. Users signed up using their Instagram details, including followers and profile information.

With one tap, people followed the same accounts.

As a result, Threads grew quickly in its early days. Since then, Meta has promoted Threads across Facebook and Instagram. For example, Instagram shows popular Threads posts in carousels. Cross-posting also encouraged more people to try the app.
These efforts appear to be working. According to Similarweb data, Threads now sees more daily mobile usage than X. However, X still leads on the web. Usage has doubled from 200 million monthly users in 2024 to 400 million in 2025. In addition, Threads reached 150 million daily active users. Meta wants Threads to compete strongly in social media. This latest feature makes sharing easier and growth faster.
