New reports suggest that Yakuza Kiwami 3 may have been accidentally leaked through RGG Studio’s official website. While no formal announcement has been made, the discovery strongly hints that a remake of Yakuza 3 is in development and could be revealed soon, potentially during the upcoming Tokyo Game Show later this month.
The Like a Dragon series, formerly known as Yakuza in the West, began in 2005 and has since expanded into numerous sequels and spin-offs. The original Yakuza 3 launched exclusively on PlayStation 3 in 2009, before later being remastered for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. While the first two games in the series were remade as Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2, fans have long hoped for the third entry to receive the same full-scale treatment.
This week, players noticed a reference to Yakuza Kiwami 3 listed in the categories section of RGG Studio’s website. Although the mention was quickly removed, screenshots circulated across social media, fueling speculation. Neither Sega nor RGG Studio has provided any comment on the situation.
The possibility of a remake is not entirely surprising. Last year, series director Masayoshi Yokoyama admitted that the team was strongly considering remaking Yakuza 3, suggesting it was more a matter of “sooner or later” than “if.” Now, it seems that “sooner” may have arrived.
Sega has already confirmed its presence at the Tokyo Game Show 2025, scheduled for September 25–28, with a lineup that includes Persona 5: The Phantom X, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O World Stage, and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The company also teased several unannounced projects, one of which could indeed be Yakuza Kiwami 3. Fans are also eyeing Sony’s rumored September State of Play as another likely venue for an official announcement. Until then, speculation remains high.
