Anthropic Claude Access Stays for Business

Anthropic Claude Access Stays for Business

The Anthropic Claude access available through major tech platforms will continue for most customers. Microsoft and Google confirmed that businesses can still use the AI model in their products. The clarification follows a dispute between Anthropic and the United States Department of Defense. Officials recently labeled the AI startup a supply-chain risk after it refused to grant unrestricted access to its technology. Anthropic said some requests involved applications it could not safely support. These reportedly included mass surveillance systems and fully autonomous weapons.
Despite the designation, Microsoft stated that the decision mainly affects defense-related work. Therefore, other customers can still access Claude through platforms like Microsoft 365, GitHub, and AI Foundry.

Cloud Platforms Maintain AI Availability

The Anthropic Claude access will also remain active on major cloud services. Google Cloud confirmed that businesses can continue using Claude for non-defense projects. Similarly, customers on Amazon Web Services can keep using the model in their applications. However, contractors working directly with defense agencies may need to follow additional rules. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said the designation applies only to specific defense contracts. According to him, it does not block other business relationships or everyday AI use.
Meanwhile, Anthropic plans to challenge the decision in court. The company argues that the classification is unusual because such labels normally apply to foreign adversaries. For now, companies building AI tools or products can still rely on Claude. As a result, startups and enterprises do not need to change their systems immediately.
