Police Investigate Antisemitic Car Incident at London School

The headteacher of Hasmonean High School for Boys sent a letter to parents on Wednesday. It described an “antisemitic traffic incident”. The Metropolitan Police is now appealing for witnesses.

A Terrifying near miss

The incident happened on 20 April at around 15:40 BST. A black car reportedly drove towards students. They were waiting to cross Holders Hill Road in Finchley. The car mounted the curb. The students moved away quickly. No one was injured.

Police Treat It as Hate Crime

The Met said it is treating the incident as “religiously aggravated assault”. Enquiries are ongoing.
The father of one of the boys spoke to the BBC. His son is 14. “There were dozens of kids walking around in kippot,” he said. Three boys were round the corner from the school. They were waiting to cross the road.

“They Jumped Backwards”

A black saloon car waited in the inside lane. As the lights turned green, the car sped up significantly. It mounted the kerb where they were standing. “They jumped backwards out of the way as the car hurtled towards them,” the father said. The car then sped off. “Had they not jumped, they would have been hit.” His son was “shaken” afterwards.
