Drug Cases Reported in 58 Pakistani Universities During 2025
University drug cases surfaced in 58 higher education institutions across Pakistan during 2025, according to official documents. Reports showed a total of 365 incidents linked to drug-related activities on campuses. As a result, authorities increased monitoring and enforcement efforts in universities nationwide.
The documents revealed that Islamabad-based institutions recorded the highest number of university drug cases. Officials reported 153 incidents in the federal capital during the year. Meanwhile, Punjab recorded 130 cases, Sindh reported 75, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa recorded seven incidents.
Authorities also confirmed that 10 cases involved university support staff. However, no faculty member was linked to any reported incident. Officials said investigations continue in several institutions to identify individuals connected to drug use and distribution on campuses.
Female Student Cases Raise Concern
The official documents also highlighted cases involving female students in different provinces. Punjab reported 28 incidents involving female students during 2025. In addition, institutions in Islamabad recorded 10 such cases, while Sindh reported eight incidents.
However, authorities did not report any female student cases from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Officials believe awareness campaigns and stronger monitoring systems can help reduce such incidents in educational institutions.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has already taken several steps to strengthen anti-drug enforcement. Therefore, officials introduced a nationwide monitoring mechanism in universities and higher education institutions.
HEC Forms Anti-Drug Committees Nationwide
HEC established Anti-Drug and Tobacco Committees in 245 public and private institutions across Pakistan. These committees now investigate complaints related to drug use, sale, and distribution on campuses.
In addition, the committees conduct awareness campaigns and monitor student activity inside universities. Officials also instructed university sub-campuses to form similar committees for better coordination and oversight.
HEC officials said the initiative aims to create safer educational environments and strengthen enforcement of anti-drug regulations across Pakistan’s higher education sector.
