LESCO Meter Scam: Remote-Control Electricity Theft Busted in Lahore

The LESCO Meter Scam has revealed a new method of electricity theft in Lahore. LESCO officials uncovered the operation during a raid in Shahdara. The company carried out the action under the instructions of Chief Executive Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt. During the raid, teams caught two suspects allegedly using remote-control devices to manipulate electricity meters.
According to officials, the suspects interfered with meter readings to reduce electricity charges illegally. As a result, the power utility suffered losses of nearly Rs. 6.5 million. Authorities immediately arrested both suspects at the site. In addition, officials seized the electricity meter, transformer, and cables used in the operation. LESCO stated that the crackdown against electricity theft will continue across the city without discrimination. The company also warned that strict legal action awaits anyone involved in power fraud or meter tampering activities.

LESCO Teams Expose Advanced Theft Technique

LESCO teams targeted an industrial connection in Shahdara after receiving surveillance reports about suspicious activity. Officials said the suspects used a remote-control setup to slow down or alter meter readings. Therefore, the operation required careful monitoring before authorities moved in.
During the raid, technical teams examined the equipment and confirmed evidence of electricity theft. Moreover, officials believe this method may have operated for a long period before detection. Following the successful operation, LESCO praised SE Northern Muhammad Muzammil, the Jia Musa surveillance staff, and the M&T team for their coordinated efforts. Their teamwork helped expose the fraud and prevent further losses to the company. Officials also said such theft methods increase pressure on the power system and affect paying consumers.

Crackdown Against Electricity Theft Intensifies

LESCO says it will strengthen inspections and surveillance throughout Lahore in the coming weeks. Officials stressed that electricity theft causes major financial losses and damages the power distribution system.
As a result, the company plans to tighten enforcement and improve monitoring technology. Authorities also encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities linked to illegal connections or meter tampering. According to LESCO, public cooperation remains essential in controlling electricity theft and protecting national resources.
