Pakistan Introduces NSCT IT Test for Better Graduate Skills and IT Jobs
The Government of Pakistan has introduced the NSCT IT test to improve the quality of IT graduates nationwide. Officials launched the initiative to bridge the gap between university education and industry requirements.
The Ministry of IT and Telecom developed the assessment after concerns about inconsistent technical skills among ICT graduates. Although universities produce thousands of graduates every year, employers still face difficulties finding industry-ready talent. Therefore, the government designed a standardized testing system to evaluate technical competencies fairly and transparently. Officials also believe the initiative will strengthen employer confidence and support Pakistan’s growing technology sector.
Nationwide Assessment for IT Students
The government formed a Steering Committee in November 2025 under the Prime Minister’s directives. The committee included representatives from the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Software Export Board, P@SHA, and Virtual University of Pakistan. Together, they developed a competency-based framework that matched current industry demands.
Officials conducted the NSCT IT test successfully in April 2026 through the Virtual University platform. More than 190 universities participated in the initiative across Pakistan. In addition, authorities organized the examination in 112 cities through 165 test centers. A total of 40,784 students registered, while 33,038 candidates appeared in the examination.
The computer-based test included 100 questions and lasted 120 minutes. Authorities also conducted four daily sessions between 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM. Moreover, HEC, MoITT, PAS, and P@SHA monitored the process to maintain transparency and credibility.
Government Expects Long-Term Benefits
Officials believe the NSCT IT test will improve computing education standards and graduate employability. The assessment also provides universities with valuable insights for curriculum improvement and outcome-based education.
In addition, the initiative may strengthen international confidence in Pakistani IT professionals. Authorities expect more graduates to enter fields like artificial intelligence, cyber security, cloud computing, and data science. As a result, Pakistan may achieve stronger IT export growth in the coming years.
