Karachi Red Line BRT Gets Emergency Funding to Speed Up Construction

The Sindh Cabinet approved emergency funding on Thursday for the delayed Karachi Red Line BRT project. The decision aims to speed up construction work on a major section of the transport corridor. In addition, officials hope the move will reduce traffic problems on University Road and improve public transport in Karachi.
According to a statement from the CM House, the Frontier Works Organisation received the contract for the 12.85-kilometer section from Numaish Chowrangi to Mosamiyat. Authorities removed the previous contractor because of delays and failure to meet project requirements.

FWO Begins Work on Key Corridor

The cabinet approved the direct hiring of the Frontier Works Organisation under a government-to-government agreement. Officials also gave the organization a 90-day deadline to complete important infrastructure work. The project includes mixed-traffic lanes, underpasses, elevated structures, and a drainage system along University Road.
Furthermore, the statement confirmed that FWO had already deployed workers and heavy machinery at the site. As a result, construction activity has started on several sections of the corridor. Authorities believe the faster pace will help ease traffic congestion and restore normal movement in busy areas.

Sindh Cabinet Approves More Development Decisions

After the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon briefed the media about other cabinet decisions. He said the cabinet approved more than Rs916.1 million for food arrangements in prisons across Sindh.
In addition, the government approved a new legal framework for the management of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and National Institute of Child Health. The cabinet also introduced a uniform postgraduate admissions system for government medical institutions. Therefore, officials allocated Rs4.739 billion for 3,794 medical training seats.
