Petrol Levy Protests Spread Across Pakistan Over Rising Inflation
Supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam staged petrol levy protests across Pakistan on Friday. People gathered in several cities to protest rising fuel prices, inflation, and taxes on petroleum products. In addition, many citizens demanded urgent relief from the government. The protests followed a call from Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, who strongly criticized the petroleum levy and the growing cost of living.
Lahore Protest Gains Public Support
In Lahore, Jamaat-e-Islami workers gathered on Mall Road with banners and placards. Protesters criticized government policies and demanded lower petrol prices. As a result, the rally drew a large crowd from different parts of the city.
Ziauddin Ansari led the protest, while senior leader Liaqat Baloch also joined the gathering. Furthermore, youth workers and local representatives participated in the demonstration. Protesters chanted slogans against inflation and called for immediate economic relief. Party leaders also warned the government about stronger protests after Eid if authorities ignored public demands.
Murree and Hyderabad Witness More Demonstrations
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami supporters continued protests at GPO Chowk in Murree. The large crowd disrupted traffic in the city center. During the protest, Ghulam Ahmed Abbasi criticized the government’s economic decisions and linked inflation to IMF-related conditions.
Separately, workers from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam protested outside the press club in Hyderabad. Speakers said rising petrol prices had increased inflation across the country. Therefore, protesters urged the government to reduce fuel prices and support struggling families.
