Power Bill Relief Announced as NEPRA Cuts Electricity Tariffs for Three Months
Millions of electricity consumers across Pakistan will receive Power Bill Relief after new tariff adjustments approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). The regulator announced a reduction in electricity rates for June, July, and August. As a result, consumers can expect lower bills during the summer months.
NEPRA approved a Rs. 1.99 per unit reduction under the quarterly tariff adjustment (QTA) mechanism for the January-March 2026 period. The reduction will remain in place for three months. According to official estimates, the adjustment will provide a cumulative benefit of around Rs. 67 billion to consumers.
June Bills to Show Immediate Relief
Alongside the tariff reduction, NEPRA also approved a fuel cost adjustment (FCA) increase of Rs. 1.19 per unit. This increase applies to electricity consumed in April 2026 and will appear in June bills. However, the regulator approved a lower increase than the Rs. 1.74 per unit requested by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA).
NEPRA also reduced the proposed recovery amount. It lowered the figure from nearly Rs. 16 billion to approximately Rs. 11 billion. Therefore, consumers will still benefit despite the fuel adjustment.
As a result of both changes, electricity users will see a net reduction of about 80 paisa per unit in June bills. In addition, the full Rs. 1.99 per unit reduction will continue during July and August, offering further savings.
Factors Behind the Tariff Cut
According to NEPRA, several elements contributed to the quarterly adjustment. These include revisions in capacity charges, transmission costs, market operator fees, and distribution losses. In addition, the government’s incremental electricity consumption package for industrial and agricultural consumers influenced the calculations.
Most electricity consumers will receive this relief. However, some lifeline consumers and certain prepaid users will remain exempt from parts of the adjustment. Some units covered under the incremental consumption package will also fall outside specific provisions.
Overall, the latest Power Bill Relief aims to reduce electricity expenses and provide financial support to consumers across the country.
