FUUAST Teachers Boycott Classes and Exams Over Unpaid Dues and Administrative Concerns
The FUUAST Teachers Boycott will begin on June 8 after faculty members from the Abdul Haq and Gulshan-e-Iqbal campuses announced a complete suspension of academic activities and examinations. Teachers said they would continue the protest until authorities address their longstanding concerns. As a result, students may face disruptions in classes and scheduled examinations.
Faculty members made the decision during a joint meeting held on Thursday. The gathering took place at the Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan Auditorium and attracted a large number of teachers from both campuses. After extensive discussions, participants unanimously agreed to continue the boycott until their demands receive a positive response.
According to a joint statement issued by Abdul Haq Campus Teachers Association Secretary Iqbal Hussain and Science Campus Teachers Association Secretary Iftikhar Tahiri, repeated delays in resolving key issues forced teachers to take collective action. Furthermore, they stressed that faculty members have raised these concerns for a long time without meaningful progress.
Teachers Demand Administrative Accountability
During the meeting, participants strongly criticized the university administration. They expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari and questioned the administration’s handling of university affairs.
Teachers urged President Asif Ali Zardari, who serves as the university’s chancellor, to intervene in the situation. In addition, they appealed to Federal Minister for Education Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the pro-chancellor, to take immediate notice of the issues.
Faculty members also called for the declaration of an academic emergency at the university. Moreover, they demanded accountability for administrative decisions that they believe have negatively affected the institution.
Faculty Seeks Immediate Payment of Dues
Teachers approved several resolutions during the meeting. They demanded the immediate release of all outstanding house ceiling claims owed to teachers and employees.
Participants also called for the withdrawal of the recently imposed 20 percent deduction in house ceiling payments. They argued that the deduction has increased financial pressure on university staff.
The FUUAST Teachers Boycott will remain in effect until authorities address these demands and provide practical solutions to the concerns raised by faculty members.
