Libraries on Wheels Project to Transform Learning in Lahore Government Schools
The Punjab education department has decided to launch the Libraries on Wheels project in government schools across Lahore. The initiative aims to promote reading habits and expand access to digital learning resources for students. Officials believe the project will help improve the quality of education while encouraging a stronger culture of learning among young people.
Mobile Libraries to Reach Schools Across Lahore
Under the project, authorities will purchase 85 electric vehicles and convert them into modern mobile libraries. The government has allocated an estimated Rs198 million for the initiative. Each vehicle will carry books, 20 modern tablets, and a large LED screen to support interactive learning activities.
According to the plan, every mobile library will visit one government school each day under a fixed schedule. Students will be able to access reading materials and digital educational content without leaving their campuses. As a result, schools that have limited library facilities will gain access to a wider range of learning resources.
In addition, education authorities will establish charging stations at designated schools to support electric vehicles. Officials expect the environmentally friendly transport system to ensure smooth and sustainable operations.
Digital Learning and Reading Culture
The District Education Authority believes the project will encourage students to develop stronger reading habits. Regular access to books can improve literacy skills, boost academic performance, and strengthen critical thinking abilities. Therefore, the initiative could have a positive impact on overall educational outcomes.
District Education Authority Chief Executive Officer Tariq Mahmood said modern technology will play a key role in the project. He explained that students will benefit from both printed books and digital educational materials. The tablets and LED screens will also support engaging and interactive learning experiences.
Furthermore, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between traditional and modern education methods. By combining books with digital tools, authorities hope to make learning more accessible and enjoyable for students.
Officials expect the Libraries on Wheels project to create new educational opportunities and help raise learning standards in government schools throughout Lahore.
