Lahore Launches Free Medical Certificates for Driving Licence Applicants
Driving Licence Certificates are now available free of charge at selected government hospitals in Lahore. The initiative aims to provide relief to citizens applying for driving licences. According to the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, eligible applicants can obtain medical fitness certificates without paying any fee. Therefore, the new facility is expected to reduce costs and improve public access to essential services.
The authorities launched the initiative to simplify the licence application process. In addition, officials hope the move will increase transparency and reduce reliance on private certification services. As a result, applicants can complete an important requirement more conveniently.
Free Certificate Centres at Government Hospitals
In the first phase, authorities established free medical fitness certificate centres at 13 government hospitals across Lahore. These hospitals include DHQ Mian Mir Hospital, DHQ Mozang, General Hospital Ghaziabad, and Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Sabzazar. Dedicated medical counters have already started serving applicants at these facilities.
The service is also available at government hospitals in Samanabad, Qila Gujjar Singh, Shahdara, Bilal Ganj, Sodiwal, Kahna, Raiwind, and Swami Nagar. Consequently, residents from different parts of the city can access the service more easily. Officials expect the expanded network to reduce inconvenience and improve efficiency. Moreover, applicants can now obtain certificates closer to their homes.
Digital Verification to Improve Transparency
The CTO said medical fitness certificates remain mandatory for commercial driving licence applicants. Individuals aged 50 years and above must also submit these certificates before obtaining or renewing a licence. To address concerns about fraudulent documentation, authorities are introducing a digital verification system. The new mechanism will allow officials to verify certificates online. Therefore, the system will help prevent the use of fake medical documents.
Officials believe digital verification will strengthen accountability and transparency in the licence issuance process. In addition, it will improve public trust in government services. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to modernize administrative procedures while making essential services more accessible. Ultimately, the new system aims to provide a smoother, more reliable experience for driving licence applicants across Lahore.
