PEIRA Sets June 30 Deadline for Scholarship Quota Data Submission
Private schools in Islamabad must submit their scholarship quota data by June 30 or face regulatory action. The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) issued the final deadline to ensure compliance with the law. The authority warned that schools failing to provide the required information could face restrictions on important services.
PEIRA directed all private institutions to submit details of students admitted under the mandatory 10 percent need-based scholarship scheme. The requirement comes under the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2012. The law requires private schools to reserve a portion of their admissions for deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
PEIRA Tightens Compliance Measures
PEIRA announced that schools failing to submit scholarship quota data by the deadline may face penalties. The authority stated that registration and renewal services for non-compliant institutions will remain restricted until they fulfill the requirement. In addition, PEIRA will publish the names of defaulting schools on its official website. The authority will also share the list with relevant examination boards. Consequently, schools that ignore the directive may face greater regulatory scrutiny.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by PEIRA Chairman Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah. Officials reviewed the implementation of the scholarship programme and assessed compliance among private educational institutions. According to PEIRA, a significant number of schools have not yet submitted the required information despite receiving multiple notices. Therefore, the authority decided to issue a final deadline to ensure full compliance with the law.
Focus on Access to Education
Dr. Mallah said the scholarship programme remains a key tool for improving educational access. He explained that authorities will prioritize out-of-school children identified through enrollment campaigns when allocating scholarship seats.
The initiative aims to provide learning opportunities to students who may otherwise struggle to attend school. Furthermore, it supports efforts to increase educational inclusion across the federal capital.
PEIRA also announced recognition for institutions already meeting the requirement. The authority will issue letters of appreciation to compliant schools for their contribution to educational inclusion.
Officials believe the programme can help reduce barriers to education and support deserving students. As a result, PEIRA urged all private schools to submit their scholarship quota data before June 30 and meet their legal responsibilities.
