Lightroom Classic Update Brings Better Subject Selection and Duplicate Finder

Adobe has released a new Lightroom Classic update that introduces several highly requested features. The update improves editing workflows and adds smarter tools for photographers. One of the biggest changes is the enhanced Select Subject feature. Adobe has improved edge detection, making automatic selections more accurate than before. The tool now handles complex details better, including reflections, gaps, and fine edges around subjects. Photographers who regularly use masking tools may notice faster editing and cleaner selections. As a result, less manual correction is often required.

Improved Editing and Library Tools

The Lightroom Classic update also introduces a duplicate finder. This feature helps users identify and manage duplicate images inside the Library module. Instead of relying only on file names, the system compares photos more intelligently. When duplicates appear, Lightroom stacks them together for easier review. Users can then remove unwanted copies with a few clicks. Adobe has also expanded its assisted culling tool. The feature now helps photographers sort large photo collections more efficiently. However, it currently works best for portrait and event photography rather than wildlife or landscape images.

New AI Features Arrive

Lightroom users also gain access to several AI-powered tools. These include AI sharpening, video generation, customizable color labels, and an interactive histogram.
The video generation feature uses Adobe Firefly technology. It creates subtle motion effects from still images, helping users produce more dynamic visual content. Meanwhile, AI sharpening aims to improve image clarity. However, the feature requires Adobe credits for each use. Some photographers may prefer dedicated software solutions that offer more control over the final result. Users should also note an important issue. Reports indicate that Adobe temporarily withdrew Lightroom Classic 15.4 because of a data loss bug linked to the new duplicate management feature. Adobe is expected to release a fix before restoring the update. Despite the temporary setback, the Lightroom Classic update delivers meaningful improvements. Better masking, duplicate management, and AI-powered tools make it one of Adobe’s most significant updates in recent months.
