Digital Passport Fee Payment Pakistan: Cash System Ends at Passport Offices from July 1, 2026

Digital Passport Fee Payment Pakistan: Cash System Ends at Passport Offices from July 1, 2026

Pakistan will implement the Digital Passport Fee system across the country from July 1, 2026. Under the new policy, passport offices will no longer accept cash payments. Instead, applicants will pay fees through digital channels using QR codes. The decision aims to improve transparency, speed up services, and make the passport application process easier for everyone. In addition, authorities plan to introduce a dedicated passport mobile application for citizens living both inside and outside Pakistan.

QR Code Payments to Replace Cash Collection

Director General Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa chaired a meeting with zonal heads to review upcoming reforms. During the briefing, officials confirmed that all passport offices will stop collecting cash from July 1, 2026. Therefore, applicants must use digital payment methods to submit passport fees.
The department will accept payments through QR codes only. As a result, applicants can complete transactions more quickly and securely. Officials believe this step will reduce delays and improve efficiency at passport centers. Moreover, the digital system will help authorities maintain accurate payment records and minimize administrative challenges.

New Mobile App to Simplify Passport Services

The government will soon launch a passport mobile application to support the new system. Through the app, Pakistani citizens will be able to submit passport applications from home. For example, overseas Pakistanis can complete the process without visiting a passport office.
Furthermore, applicants will receive updates about their applications through digital channels. The department also plans to deliver passports directly to applicants’ doorsteps. Consequently, citizens will save time and avoid unnecessary travel.
Officials say these reforms mark an important step toward modernizing public services. The initiative will make passport services more accessible, convenient, and user-friendly. Meanwhile, authorities continue preparations to ensure a smooth transition before the new system takes effect nationwide on July 1, 2026.
