NSCT 2026 Results Prompt HEC to Suspend Computing Admissions at 44 Universities

The NSCT 2026 Results have prompted the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to temporarily suspend admissions in computing and computer science programmes at 44 universities and institutions across Pakistan. The decision came after a significant number of students from these institutions failed to meet the minimum competency requirements in the National Skill Competency Test (NSCT) 2026. As a result, HEC has launched a review process to assess academic quality and institutional performance before allowing new admissions.

HEC Takes Action to Improve Academic Standards

According to HEC Quality Assurance Director General Nasir Shah, the commission introduced the suspension to protect educational standards in higher education. He explained that many students failed to achieve the required competency benchmarks during the national assessment. Therefore, HEC decided to stop fresh admissions as a corrective step.
The suspension will remain effective until universities complete institutional audits and quality reviews. In addition, the relevant authorities must approve the findings before admissions can resume. HEC believes this measure will encourage institutions to strengthen their academic systems and improve learning outcomes.
The commission has also issued a Student Advisory. The advisory urges students and parents to verify the status of computing programmes before applying to any university. Furthermore, HEC wants applicants to make informed decisions about their educational future.

Universities Across Pakistan Under Review

The suspension affects institutions in several regions of the country. These include seven universities in Sindh, three in Balochistan, fourteen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, two in Lahore, and four in South Punjab.
Several public and private universities have been placed under review. These institutions will undergo detailed evaluations to identify academic weaknesses and implement improvements. Consequently, HEC aims to ensure that graduates possess the skills required by the rapidly evolving technology sector.
Officials say the move reflects HEC’s commitment to quality education and professional excellence. Moreover, the review process will help universities align their computing programmes with national and international standards. The initiative seeks to strengthen confidence in Pakistan’s higher education system and improve student outcomes.
