9th and 10th Muharram Processions Across Pakistan Under Tight Security
Pakistan is observing 9th and 10th Muharram with deep religious devotion and extensive security arrangements. Authorities have deployed thousands of police officers and security personnel across the country to ensure peaceful mourning events. In addition, officials have established security checkpoints and sabeels along major procession routes.
Large processions and majalis are taking place in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, and Hangu. Therefore, law enforcement agencies remain on high alert. Officials are also coordinating with local administrations, religious scholars, and community leaders to maintain peace during the observances.
Punjab Enhances Security for Muharram Events
In Lahore, the central Zuljanah procession started from Islampura on 9th Muharram. Another major procession departed from Pando Street and will conclude at Khaima-e-Sadaat. Similar mourning events are continuing across Punjab ahead of Ashura on 10th Muharram.
Punjab Police reported that 1,697 mourning processions and 3,869 majalis are being held throughout the province. Among them, 208 processions and 337 majalis fall under the A-category security classification.
Punjab Inspector General of Police said more than 70,000 officers and personnel are performing security duties on 9th and 10th Muharram. Authorities are monitoring events through CCTV cameras, walk-through gates, and metal detectors. Furthermore, snipers and plain-clothes commandos are securing sensitive locations and procession routes.
Karachi, Islamabad and Balochistan Remain on High Alert
In Karachi, the central majlis was held at Nishtar Park on 9th Muharram. The central procession later followed its traditional route and concluded at Hussainia Iranian in Kharadar. Authorities have also finalized arrangements for Ashura processions on 10th Muharram.
Karachi Police deployed more than 5,000 officers and personnel, while Rangers are supporting security operations. As a result, authorities closed key roads and strengthened monitoring across the city.
Meanwhile, the historic Nau Dhala Tazia procession continued in Sukkur and Rohri. In Hangu, mourners participated in traditional processions under strict security. Balochistan deployed more than 32,000 security personnel, while Islamabad scheduled processions and majalis for both 9th and 10th Muharram observances.
