Annihilated Launches July 22 With Roguelite Deckbuilding Action

Annihilated Launches July 22 With Roguelite Deckbuilding Action

Fans of roguelite adventures and deckbuilding RPGs have another promising title to add to their wishlists. Developer Death Kumiai and publisher Flashlight Games have officially confirmed that Annihilated will launch on July 22 for PC via Steam, bringing together challenging dungeon crawling, strategic card battles, visual novel storytelling, and permanent progression systems.

Previously showcased during Steam Next Fest, the game immediately caught the attention of players thanks to its unique blend of retro-inspired visuals, emotional storytelling, and punishing roguelite gameplay. Rather than focusing solely on combat, Annihilated places heavy emphasis on player choices, branching narratives, and the fate of its broken cast of heroes.

Annihilated Blends Roguelite Combat With Story-Driven RPG Gameplay

Annihilated begins after a legendary hero’s party disappears deep inside a mysterious dungeon. Players take on the role of the only survivor from a rescue expedition, venturing further into the cursed labyrinth to uncover what happened while attempting to save those left behind. Unlike traditional RPG protagonists, the player has no combat abilities of their own. Instead, they borrow the remaining strength of fallen heroes encountered throughout the adventure. Each companion offers unique abilities, battle styles, and storylines, but only one can ultimately be rescued, making every decision carry significant weight.

The game features four distinct story routes, each presenting different characters, choices, and endings. According to the developers, every route reveals new details about the dungeon, the curse, and the tragic fate of the missing heroes, encouraging multiple playthroughs. Narrative plays a central role throughout the experience, with more than 200,000 words of dialogue presented in a visual novel format. Every conversation helps shape relationships while gradually uncovering the mystery hidden beneath the dungeon.

Strategic Card Battles And High-Risk Dungeon Exploration

While storytelling forms one pillar of the experience, combat delivers the second. Annihilated combines turn-based card battles with timing-based mechanics that reward both strategy and quick reflexes.
Players must carefully manage weapons, resources, and positioning while navigating dangerous dungeons filled with monsters, deadly traps, and random events. Every expedition introduces unpredictable situations, ensuring no two runs play out exactly the same. One of the game’s most distinctive mechanics is its Weapon Breakage System. Every weapon has limited durability, but players can deliberately destroy equipment during battle to trigger temporary combat buffs capable of turning difficult encounters in their favor.

Defeat and weapon destruction also generate Curse Points, which become an important long-term progression resource. These points can be spent on permanent upgrades, valuable items, improved character statistics, or even life-saving opportunities during dangerous roulette events later in the adventure. Like many successful roguelites, failure does not completely reset progress. Instead, each run provides new resources and knowledge that gradually strengthen future attempts while encouraging experimentation with different builds and character routes.

Annihilated Launches This July On Steam

Death Kumiai describes Annihilated as a project inspired by classic Japanese RPGs, retro adventure games, and narrative-heavy visual novels. The developers also cite influences from franchises including Fire Emblem, Super Mario RPG, Undertale, and The Legend of Zelda, combining their storytelling philosophy with modern roguelite mechanics. The distinctive cartoon-inspired art style contrasts sharply with the game’s darker themes, creating a world that appears charming on the surface while hiding emotional character stories and difficult moral decisions underneath.

Annihilated launches on July 22 for PC via Steam with a retail price of $16.99. Players purchasing the game during its first two weeks will also receive a 10% launch discount. With its combination of branching narratives, strategic deckbuilding, punishing dungeon crawling, and meaningful player choices, the Annihilated launch could make this one of the standout indie RPG releases of the summer.
