Punjab Exam Duties Expanded to Intern Teachers from Next Session
The Punjab Exam Duties policy will change from the next examination session after Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat approved the inclusion of intern teachers in paper checking and invigilation. The decision aims to strengthen the examination system by expanding the pool of trained staff. Officials said temporary teachers working in schools and colleges will now become eligible for these important responsibilities.
Intern Teachers to Join Examination Process
According to official details, all School Teacher Interns (STIs) and other temporary teachers currently serving in government schools and colleges can participate in paper checking and examination invigilation. The new policy will take effect from the next examination cycle. The education department also plans to train university graduates, STIs, and other qualified individuals before assigning them examination duties. As a result, authorities hope to improve the quality and efficiency of the examination process.
Officials believe the training programme will help new exam staff understand marking standards, invigilation procedures, and examination rules. In addition, the initiative aims to create a larger pool of qualified personnel for future examinations across Punjab. The government expects the move to reduce the workload on existing paper checkers while maintaining transparency in the assessment process. Therefore, trained temporary teachers will play a greater role in conducting examinations.
Previous Policy Replaced
The latest decision marks a significant policy shift by the Punjab government. Previously, authorities had banned private teachers from performing examination-related duties, including paper checking and invigilation. The government introduced that restriction to ensure better oversight of the examination system. However, the new policy allows temporary teachers already working in government educational institutions to perform these responsibilities after completing the required training. Officials clarified that only eligible and trained individuals will receive examination assignments.
Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat believes the revised policy will strengthen the examination system and improve operational efficiency. Moreover, the inclusion of trained intern teachers could help education authorities conduct examinations more smoothly across the province. The Punjab Exam Duties initiative reflects the government’s broader efforts to modernize examination management while ensuring fairness, transparency, and timely evaluation of students’ answer sheets throughout Punjab.
