Pakistan E-Passports for UAE Residents Start July 20: Fees, Rules Announced
Pakistan will start issuing Pakistan e-passports UAE nationals from July 20, 2026. The Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai announced that all passport applications submitted in the UAE will now be processed under the e-passport category. The new system will apply at the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai. Officials said the move will improve travel security and meet international standards.
New rules and passport fees
The new e-passports comply with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). However, existing machine-readable passports will remain valid until their expiry date. Therefore, Pakistanis whose passports have more than six months of validity should wait before applying for renewal.
Overseas Pakistanis can also continue using the online passport application service provided by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP). In addition, the government has announced the fee structure for five-year and 10-year e-passports.
A five-year, 36-page e-passport will cost AED 145 under the normal category and AED 235 under urgent processing. Meanwhile, a 72-page passport will cost AED 260 for normal service and AED 425 for urgent processing.
Validity and replacement charges
A 10-year, 36-page e-passport will cost AED 215 under normal processing and AED 355 under the urgent category. Likewise, applicants seeking a 72-page passport will pay AED 390 for normal service and AED 635 for urgent processing. Officials also confirmed that higher charges will apply for replacing lost passports. The fee will vary depending on whether it is the first or second loss. Therefore, applicants should keep their travel documents secure to avoid additional costs.
The embassy advised the Pakistani community in the UAE to visit the official DGIP website and follow its verified communication channels for updates. The introduction of e-passports marks another step toward modernizing passport services. It also aims to provide faster, safer, and internationally recognized travel documents for overseas Pakistanis.
