ECP Sets August 29 Deadline for Political Parties’ Financial Statements
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set August 29 as the deadline for registered political parties to submit their ECP financial statements for the fiscal year 2025-26. The commission issued the directive under the Elections Act, 2017. It said timely financial disclosures will strengthen transparency and accountability. Moreover, all parties must follow the prescribed rules without exception.
Parties Must Submit Complete Financial Records
The ECP directed every registered political party to file its annual accounts on Form-D. The statements must include details of income, expenditure, assets and liabilities for the financial year ending June 30, 2026. In addition, each party must attach an audit report prepared by a chartered accountant.
The party head must also submit a signed certificate confirming that the party has not received prohibited funding. The certificate must state that no funds came from foreign governments, multinational companies, domestic public or private companies, firms, trade associations, professional associations or any other prohibited source under Pakistan’s election laws. As a result, the commission expects all parties to maintain accurate and transparent financial records.
ECP Issues Strict Submission Guidelines
The commission warned that it will reject Form-D if it contains overwriting, erasures or alterations. Therefore, political parties must ensure that all documents are complete and error-free before submission. Furthermore, each party must provide bank statements covering the period from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
The ECP also instructed parties to submit all required documents in person to the office of the Secretary of the Election Commission. It clarified that officials will not accept documents sent through post, courier, fax or electronic means. Finally, the commission said these financial disclosure requirements will promote transparency, improve accountability and strengthen compliance with Pakistan’s electoral laws. The ECP urged all political parties to meet the August 29 deadline and avoid unnecessary delays or procedural issues.
