PM Launches Indus Robotics Expo 2026, Announces Pakistan Venture Fund
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the Indus Robotics Expo 2026 in Islamabad and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to becoming a leader in advanced technologies. Speaking at the opening ceremony, he said robotics and autonomous systems are shaping the future of industries worldwide. He added that Pakistan must embrace innovation to strengthen its economy, improve public services and create new opportunities for young people. The prime minister also announced a $20 million Pakistan Venture Fund to support investment in the country’s technology sector.
Robotics to Drive Innovation Across Key Sectors
Addressing the gathering, Shehbaz Sharif said robotics and autonomous systems are already transforming agriculture. He explained that modern technologies help farmers detect crop stress early and use water, fertilisers and pesticides more efficiently. As a result, farmers can improve productivity while reducing waste and responding better to climate challenges.
The prime minister also highlighted the role of autonomous systems in disaster management. He said these technologies can help rescue teams reach affected areas quickly and improve relief operations during emergencies. In addition, he praised Pakistani scientists, engineers and technocrats for advancing indigenous technologies. He noted that several advanced simulators are now manufactured and assembled locally, while drones have achieved more than 60 percent indigenisation.
Government Announces New Technology Initiatives
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan has made significant progress in defence and security technologies. He added that the armed forces, under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, continue to adopt advanced systems developed within the country. Referring to the success of Marka-e-Haq, he said the world witnessed Pakistan’s effective use of autonomous technologies to protect its physical and cyber frontiers.
The prime minister urged universities, startups, industries and research institutions to work together to strengthen Pakistan’s innovation ecosystem. He also stressed that locally developed technologies should remain nationally owned and continuously improved. Furthermore, he called for clear ethical and regulatory frameworks to ensure safe and transparent use of autonomous systems. He announced the Spark and Elevate Programme to transform research into globally competitive businesses, technologies and jobs. Finally, he unveiled the Pakistan Venture Fund with an initial allocation of $20 million to accelerate innovation and attract investment into Pakistan’s growing technology sector.
