Islamabad Colleges Staff Shortage Persists as Six Institutions Await Sanctioned Posts
At least six colleges in Islamabad continue to operate without sanctioned teaching posts. The Islamabad colleges staff shortage has forced the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to borrow teachers from other institutions. Meanwhile, the directorate is waiting for government approval to recruit 240 schoolteachers to fill vacant positions.
Six colleges rely on borrowed teachers
According to FDE officials, Islamabad Model Colleges in G-13/1, G-13/2, G-14/4, G-15, Mera Bagwal, and Pakistan Town still have no sanctioned staff positions. Instead, teachers from nearby colleges manage classes. However, those colleges also face teacher shortages, which has increased the workload on existing staff.
Officials said the FDE continues to work with the education ministry and other government departments to secure approval for PC-4. This approval will create permanent teaching posts for the six colleges. An official said the government spent years building these institutions. Therefore, authorities should have approved staff positions before opening them.
Despite the shortage, the FDE has made progress in recruitment. Officials said the Federal Public Service Commission is completing the hiring of nearly 1,200 BS-17 teachers. The directorate has already received several batches of newly appointed teachers. In addition, the FDE has requested a no-objection certificate to recruit 240 BS-14 schoolteachers against existing vacant posts. Officials said they have waited nearly two months for approval.
More classrooms increase teacher demand
The demand for teachers will grow further in the coming months. Under the prime minister’s education reforms package, workers have nearly completed 70 new classrooms in federal schools. As a result, student enrollment is expected to rise, creating the need for additional teachers.
Officials said the government has upgraded around 170 schools and colleges during the past three years. The work included new classrooms, renovated buildings, and improved facilities. Furthermore, the FDE has prepared another development project to provide missing facilities in the remaining institutions. Although the government did not approve funding for the current fiscal year, officials remain hopeful that it will allocate funds later this year or include the project in the 2027-28 budget. Strengthening staff and infrastructure, they said, remains essential to improving education standards in the federal capital.
