Karachi Infrastructure Projects: Sindh Awards Rs8.5 Billion Road Contracts to FWO
The Karachi infrastructure projects plan has entered a new phase after the Sindh government awarded four major contracts worth Rs8.5 billion to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). The projects aim to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and upgrade key roads across the city. Moreover, the provincial government plans to begin work on three of the schemes in August.
According to Geo News, the projects include new flyovers, intersection improvements and road rehabilitation. Together, these initiatives are expected to make daily travel easier for commuters across Karachi.
Flyovers to improve traffic flow
One of the largest projects involves the construction of a flyover interchange near the Northern Bypass on the M-9 Motorway. The project aims to improve connectivity between different parts of Karachi and reduce traffic congestion. It carries an estimated cost of Rs2.3 billion.
Since the flyover will pass over the motorway, the Sindh Local Government Department has started obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the National Highway Authority (NHA). Therefore, officials expect construction to begin once the approval process is complete.
Another key project includes a flyover at the intersection linking Abul Hasan Isphahani Road with the area opposite Al-Asif Square on the motorway. The government has allocated around Rs2.1 billion for the scheme. Officials believe the flyover will improve traffic movement from every direction and reduce congestion at one of Karachi’s busiest junctions.
Road upgrades to support commuters
The Sindh government has also approved the rehabilitation of Hawksbay Road. The road improvement project will cost an estimated Rs4.162 billion. In addition, authorities expect construction work to start in August.
Officials say the road upgrade will improve travel conditions and support smoother traffic flow for residents and visitors. Furthermore, the wider infrastructure plan reflects the provincial government’s commitment to modernising Karachi’s transport network.
Once completed, these projects are expected to reduce travel time, improve road safety and strengthen connectivity across the city. As a result, thousands of daily commuters could benefit from a more efficient road network.
