Pakistan, US Expand Education Cooperation With Focus on Cybersecurity
Pakistan US education cooperation received a major boost as Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui met a visiting United States Congressional delegation in Islamabad. Both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration in cybersecurity, higher education, research, and emerging technologies. They also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding academic partnerships and people-to-people ties.
Cybersecurity and Research Take Centre Stage
Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui welcomed Congressman Michael James Baumgartner and Congressman Ryan Keith Zinke, along with senior officials from both countries. Minister of State Wajiha Qamar, NAVTTC Chairman Qamar-ul-Islam Raja, and senior ministry officials also attended the meeting.
During the discussions, both sides explored ways to develop specialised cybersecurity courses and certification programmes. They agreed to encourage partnerships between Pakistani and US universities for curriculum development, faculty collaboration, and joint research. In addition, they discussed establishing dual-degree programmes, research centres, faculty exchanges, and innovation projects in climate resilience, public health, water management, food security, and teacher education.
The minister praised the continued success of the Fulbright Programme and other US-funded academic exchange initiatives. He encouraged students and researchers from all provinces to participate in these merit-based opportunities, especially in science, agriculture, education, energy, and climate studies.
Stronger Academic Ties to Drive Innovation
The meeting highlighted the importance of education as a foundation of Pakistan-US relations. Officials noted that more than 44,000 Pakistanis have benefited from US government exchange programmes over the years. Therefore, both countries agreed to further expand cooperation in research, innovation, and technology.
The minister also stressed Pakistan’s potential as a reliable partner in information technology, financial technology, and agricultural technology. Both sides explored short-term research exchanges, virtual laboratories, mobility programmes, and innovation incubators to strengthen entrepreneurship and skills development.
The Ministry of Federal Education reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation with the United States. Officials expressed confidence that stronger collaboration in education, research, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies will further strengthen bilateral relations and create new opportunities for students, researchers, and academic institutions.
