Punjab Introduces Unique Student ID System for 15 Million Government School Students
The Punjab student ID system has received approval from the Punjab School Education Department. The initiative will provide a permanent digital identity to nearly 15 million students enrolled in government schools across the province. Officials said the new system will simplify student record management and improve education services. It will also help schools access student information quickly and accurately.
Permanent Digital ID to Simplify Student Records
Under the new system, every student will receive a permanent Unique ID. The identifier will remain the same even if a student transfers to another government school. As a result, schools will no longer need to create new student profiles after every transfer.
The digital platform will allow authorized officials to view a student’s complete academic history. They can access examination results, academic performance, pass or fail status, current grade, age, city of residence, and basic health information. In addition, the system will provide all records through a single digital platform, making data management faster and more efficient.
Officials believe the permanent ID will reduce paperwork and improve the accuracy of student records. Moreover, receiving schools will immediately access a student’s educational history after a transfer. This approach will save time and ensure continuity in education.
Digital Platform to Improve Education Planning
The Punjab School Education Department will first introduce the system in government schools. Later, officials plan to expand the digital platform to private educational institutions across the province. Therefore, the initiative could eventually create a unified education database for millions of students.
School Education Secretary Mudassir Riaz discussed the project with district education officers during a meeting. He said the system will strengthen transparency, improve monitoring, and support better education planning throughout Punjab. Furthermore, officials expect the platform to help policymakers make informed decisions using accurate and updated student data.
The Punjab student ID initiative reflects the government’s broader effort to modernize education through digital technology. Authorities believe the system will improve administrative efficiency, reduce duplication, and provide students with a seamless academic record throughout their educational journey.
