ChatGPT Adds Unlimited Text Access for Free Users
OpenAI has introduced unlimited text access for free ChatGPT users. The company announced the change on August 6 as usage continues to grow. The update removes limits on standard text conversations for Free and Go users. However, separate limits still apply to files, images, voice features, and image generation.
New AI Features Arrive
GPT-5.6 Luna will become the default model for Free and Go accounts. It will replace GPT-5.5 and handle everyday questions with improved reliability. Users will also see a new Think button. This option lets people request stronger reasoning for difficult questions and detailed problems. Meanwhile, Plus and Pro subscribers will receive an upgraded GPT-5.6 Sol model. OpenAI designed this version for research, planning, writing, advice, and quick decisions.
The Company Added Accounts
The company also added a thinking slider for Plus and Pro accounts. Users can adjust the reasoning level according to each task. Therefore, simple questions can receive quicker responses. More complex requests can receive deeper analysis when needed. OpenAI reported fewer factual errors during internal testing. Compared with GPT-5.5-Instant, GPT-5.6 Luna produced 62% fewer factual errors.
GPT-5.6 Sol performed even better during the same evaluation. The company reported a 68% reduction in factual errors compared with GPT-5.5-Instant. The upgraded Sol model is available to Plus and Pro users now. Other changes will reach Free and Go users during this week.
Next week, OpenAI plans to expand unlimited text access further. Users will also gain the Think button for challenging questions. The changes could make everyday conversations easier for people using free accounts. At the same time, paid users gain more control over reasoning depth.
