Google Pakistan Office Marks New Digital Transformation Milestone
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled the foundation plaque for Google’s Pakistan office on Tuesday. He called the move a major milestone in Pakistan’s digital transformation and technology journey.
Google Backs Pakistan’s IT Ambitions
Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the Google delegation during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office. He said Google had become a household name worldwide and saw strong potential for deeper cooperation.The prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s young population as a major economic opportunity. He said the government wants to use technology and modern skills to create new opportunities for young people.
Google Vice President Wilson L. White described his first Pakistan visit as a major milestone. He said Google had invested in Pakistan for more than a decade and remained committed to the country.White said Google’s goals closely match the prime minister’s plan to make Pakistan a $30 billion IT export hub. He added that Google had supported more than Rs3.9 trillion in economic activity for Pakistani businesses and households.According to White, Google’s efforts have also supported more than 960,000 jobs. He said the company would support Pakistan’s IT sector through people, infrastructure and local businesses.
Free Gemini Access for Students
Google also announced a major benefit for Pakistani students. The company plans to offer free Gemini subscriptions to students across Pakistan for one year.White said Google had already helped more than one million Pakistanis develop digital skills. The company delivered these programmes through career certificates, schools and teachers.
Meanwhile, the prime minister thanked Google for strengthening its presence in Pakistan. He said the government would equip young people with modern tools, technology and skills.US Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker and IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja attended the plaque unveiling. Baker also congratulated the prime minister on the occasion.The new office could strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and Google. It also signals growing interest in Pakistan’s technology sector and its young digital workforce.
