Seventeen years after its debut, Wizard101 is officially coming to consoles, with the PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S versions launching on October 9, 2025. KingsIsle Entertainment’s family-friendly MMORPG will finally step beyond PC, offering players on major gaming platforms a chance to dive into its colorful magical world.
Often compared to World of Warcraft and Harry Potter, Wizard101 casts players as young apprentices training at Ravenwood School.
Using a card-based combat system, players summon creatures and spells to battle across the Spiral, a world filled with realms inspired by mythology and fantasy. The game’s mix of role-playing, exploration, and strategy has long sustained its popularity.
Wizard101’s Console Expansion
On PlayStation and Xbox, the game will remain free-to-play, with expanded areas such as the Oasis zone of Krokotopia included. Players will still need a subscription to progress beyond the first story arc.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch version, which remains without a release date, will charge $19.99 upfront but include the complete first arc.
Earlier in 2025, Xbox players tested the free preview version, which set the stage for this broader release. The full console launch is expected to reignite interest among fans who have remained loyal despite limited expansions in recent years.
Why Wizard101 Still Matters
The game’s longevity highlights its unique place in the MMO market. While other magical titles like Hogwarts Legacy lack multiplayer features, Wizard101 offers cooperative play in a whimsical setting.
KingsIsle is betting that nostalgia, free-to-play accessibility, and cross-platform availability will draw both returning players and newcomers alike.
With nearly two decades of service behind it, the leap to consoles represents more than just a port, it’s a revival for one of online gaming’s most enduring hidden gems.
