After years of anticipation, the quirky sci-fi action RPG Space Chef officially launches on October 28. Swedish studio BlueGooGames developed the game, blending culinary creativity with interstellar exploration. A new trailer, revealed exclusively by Game Rant, confirmed the release date.
Gameplay and Features
Space Chef first drew attention in 2021 after raising more than $53,000 on Kickstarter. Behind its cartoon-style visuals lies a layered ARPG where players manage their own space restaurant. The core loop follows the formula of “hunt, cook, deliver.”
Players gather ingredients from procedurally generated planets, hunting or harvesting resources from diverse flora and fauna. With over 140 recipes, they must impress customers and grow from a small delivery service into a thriving galactic restaurant. Replayability drives the design, ensuring that every run feels unique as players adapt to new planetary conditions and species.
BlueGooGames founders Niclas Marie and Tobias Tranell explained that they built each environment like a puzzle. Players figure out how local creatures behave, whether they can be tamed, defeated, or harvested for resources. At launch, the galaxy will feature more than 180 creatures, offering variety in both combat and cooking. The game also supports vegetarian and vegan dishes while giving players deeper business management options, including setting operating hours.
Release Platforms
The October 28 release covers PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Developers have not yet confirmed the price, but players can already try a demo on Steam. Indie publisher Kwalee, known for Hordes of Hunger and The Precinct, will distribute the game.
With its mix of RPG combat, resource gathering, and culinary creativity, Space Chef promises to be one of 2025’s standout indie launches.
