Iran to Host First National AI Congress on Natural Resources and Agriculturee first national congress on artificial intelligence (AI) in natural resources will be held from September 4–5 at Shiraz University, Fars Province, under the theme “Intelligent Technology, Green Land, and Sustainable Future. The two-day congress aims to address challenges in education, research, and the practical application of AI in agriculture, natural resources, and the environment. Over 30 lecturers are scheduled to present their scientific and research achievements across six panels and two specialized meetings, Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported.Two sessions will focus on major challenges: “Artificial Intelligence: Governance in Education and Research” and “Precision Agriculture: Adoption, Education, Infrastructure.” Discussions will center around improving productivity, sustainable agriculture, water resource management, climate change adaptation, biodiversity, pest control, big data, remote sensing, food security, and ethical research in agriculture.The event highlights the growing importance of integrating AI into scientific and technological projects for smart agriculture, environmental protection, and sustainable development.Meanwhile, in April, the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy and the National Development Fund (NDF) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a $100 million fund to support AI development in line with the seventh national development plan (2023–2027).The fund will finance AI projects through loans, partnerships, and other financial mechanisms, while encouraging cooperation between universities and the private sector. According to officials, the initiative underscores Iran’s commitment to emerging technologies and sustainable solutions for agriculture and natural resources.
