Dhaka, Sept 01: The Ministry of Education has issued new regulations limiting the tenure and membership of individuals serving in the governing bodies of private schools and colleges across the country.According to the gazette, no individual can serve as the president of a managing committee for more than two consecutive terms. A third term will only be allowed after a break of one term. Additionally, the president must hold either a master’s degree from a recognized university or a four-year bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent qualification).
The regulations further stipulate that one individual cannot serve as the president of more than one private educational institution. Similarly, a person cannot be nominated as a member in more than three governing bodies of any type of private institutions.On Sunday, the Barisal Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board issued the Lower Secondary, Secondary and Higher Secondary Level Private Educational Institutions Governing Body and Managing Committee Regulations-2025. The Mymensingh and Sylhet Education Boards released the same notification the same day, while the Dhaka Education Board issued it on Thursday.
Under the new framework, each managing committee will consist of a president, three general teacher representatives, a reserved female teacher representative, five general guardian representatives, a reserved female guardian representative, and one founding member representative.
All general guardian representatives will be elected directly through votes cast by guardians of students from the respective institutions, ensuring greater representation and transparency in school governance.
