Partiful Faces Privacy Concerns After GPS Data Found in User Photos

Event Startup Partiful Wasn’t Stripping GPS Locations from User-Uploaded Photos
Event platform Partiful is under scrutiny after reports revealed it didn’t remove GPS location data from user-uploaded photos. This small but serious oversight could expose users’ private addresses and event locations online.

A Hidden Privacy Risk

When users upload images, many contain embedded metadata like time, date, and GPS coordinates. Normally, social media and event platforms automatically strip this data to protect privacy. However, Partiful apparently failed to do so.
As a result, anyone with access to those images could potentially track where they were taken. That’s especially worrying for users sharing photos from private homes or invitation-only events.

Partiful’s Response

After the issue surfaced, Partiful said it is working to fix the problem immediately. The company emphasized that protecting user data is a top priority.
In addition, Partiful is reviewing its photo-handling process to ensure that metadata removal becomes standard for all uploads. The company also encouraged users to check their phone settings and remove GPS tags before posting photos.
This incident is a reminder that even fun, community-based apps can face privacy challenges. Therefore, users should stay cautious about what they share online.
Tech experts say it’s a wake-up call for startups to take data protection as seriously as design or growth. Privacy isn’t optional—it’s essential.
