Instagram Tests Major Redesign with New Reels and DM Tabs — Users React

Instagram is testing a bold new look. The app’s latest redesign gives Reels and Direct Messages (DMs) their own tabs on the main menu bar. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the feature is currently available to a limited group of users.
The new layout rearranges the app’s familiar sections — Feed, Search, Create, Reels, and Profile. In this test version, Search and Reels have swapped positions. In addition, the traditional Create Post button now appears as a shortcut to DMs.

This shift places a stronger focus

On short-form video and private messaging. As a result, some users see it as a move to compete more directly with TikTok and Snapchat. Others, however, feel the redesign makes posting photos less accessible.
Feedback has been mixed. Some users appreciate faster access to messages and Reels. They say the interface feels cleaner and more modern. However, others argue that Instagram is moving further away from its photo-sharing roots.
Instagram hasn’t confirmed Whether this new design will roll out globally. The company often tests interface updates before making them permanent. Therefore, this redesign could still change based on user response.
For now, users can expect more visual tweaks as Instagram continues to evolve. The platform’s goal appears clear — to keep users watching and connecting more than ever.
