Pakistan Railways Adds Coaches Amid Road Closures That Disrupt Travel in Rawalpindi
Rawalpindi faces serious traffic disruptions. Major roads have shut down including Rawalpindi Expressway, Faizabad, and IGP Road. Local routes like Khana Pul, Curry Road, and Dhok Kala Khan also remain blocked.
Authorities also closed paths coming from Waris Khan, Committee Chowk, Sixth Road, Shamsabad, Rawal Road, Shaheen Chowk, Saddar, and the old airport. Heavy traffic has banned entry into the city.
Railway Steps Up for Passengers
Pakistan Railways has responded. It has decided to attach additional coaches to trains from Rawalpindi to Lahore. The move aims to help passengers cope with overcrowding and long queues at Rawalpindi Railway Station.
Railway officials assure that train schedules remain unchanged. They also appeal for passenger cooperation during the temporary road disruptions.
Impact on Daily Travel & Commuting
Transport stations, metro bus services, and local transit have shut down in multiple sectors. The closures force many commuters to rely on rail travel or face severe delays.
In Lahore, traffic authorities have started reopening roads such as the route from Bati Chowk to Ferozwala. They cleared containers near Ravi Bridge and opened Shahdara Bridge for all traffic. Despite this, other areas still suffer from blockades.
How Travelers Can Plan Smart
Allow extra time for journeys, especially when using road transport near Rawalpindi. Consider using trains with extra coaches, as they currently offer the best available option.
Stay updated via local advisories. Monitor announcements from Pakistan Railways for changes in train capacity or road reopening. Use alternative routes in Lahore when possible to avoid closed roads.
