COMSTECH Signs MoU to Rebuild Higher Education in Gaza
COMSTECH, the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, has signed a landmark MoU with the Consortium of Universities, Gaza–Palestine. The agreement aims to strengthen higher education in Gaza through scientific research, innovation, and institutional rebuilding.
The MoU was signed in Islamabad by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of COMSTECH, and Prof. Ayman M. F. Sobh, President of Al-Aqsa University. The consortium represents seven leading Gaza universities, including Al-Aqsa, Al Azhar, Islamic University of Gaza, University of Palestine, Gaza University, Israa University, and Al-Quds Open University.
A Step Toward Academic Resilience
Under the MoU, COMSTECH and Gaza universities will promote joint programs, international conferences, and training workshops. They will also facilitate exchange visits for faculty, researchers, and technical experts.
In addition, Gaza universities will join the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence (CCoE) and register on the OIC Technology and Innovation Portal, expanding collaboration with over 80 institutions across OIC member states.
COMSTECH will further assist Gaza’s academic sector through faculty development, sabbatical opportunities, and training in key fields like Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Medicine, and IT.
Prof. Choudhary emphasized that this initiative reflects COMSTECH’s mission to empower OIC nations through science and technology. “Education is a key tool for recovery and sustainable growth,” he said.
The visiting Gaza delegation met Pakistani university leaders in Islamabad, Faisalabad, and Lahore to explore joint projects. They expressed gratitude for COMSTECH’s continued support and solidarity with Gaza’s academic community.
