Meta Launches New Tools to Protect Older Users from Online Scams

Meta wants to make the internet safer for older users. The company is rolling out new features to help people spot and avoid scams. This move comes as online fraud continues to target older generations.
Unfortunately, older internet users often become the main victims of digital scams. From fake “Amazon” calls to phony “Facebook password” messages, these traps appear everywhere. And scammers keep getting smarter each year.

The Alarming Numbers

According to the FBI’s Internet Crime Report, users over 60 faced the highest losses from online scams in 2024. They filed the most complaints and lost an incredible $4.8 billion to fraudsters that year.
That’s not just a statistic — it’s a warning. Scammers know this age group often trusts familiar platforms like Facebook. Therefore, they use those spaces to target them directly.

Meta’s Plan to Fight Fraud

In response, Meta is building new safety features for Facebook and Instagram. These tools will alert users about suspicious links, impersonation attempts, and fake customer service pages.
The goal is to give older users more confidence online. In addition, Meta plans to share safety tips through short videos and community posts. The company hopes these changes will reduce fraud and rebuild trust among its oldest and most loyal users.
Staying alert online is no longer optional — it’s essential.
