Amazon Email Error Exposes Cloud Job Cuts
Amazon accidentally alerted cloud employees about job cuts through an internal email. The message referenced organizational changes inside its cloud division. The email reached staff on Tuesday. As a result, it revealed layoffs before any public announcement. According to sources, Amazon plans broader corporate layoffs soon. These cuts may affect both cloud computing and retail teams.
What the Email Revealed
The message came from a senior Amazon Web Services executive. It acknowledged that some employees were already notified. The email said such changes were difficult but necessary. However, it stressed that leadership made the decisions carefully. The subject line mentioned “Project Dawn.”Later, the message appeared to be canceled, suggesting an internal mistake. Amazon did not explain what Project Dawn means. In addition, company representatives declined immediate comment.
Layoffs Follow Earlier Workforce Cuts
Amazon already announced major job cuts last October. At that time, it said more reductions would continue in 2026. CEO Andy Jassy previously said the company must reduce bureaucracy. He also believes AI efficiency will shrink corporate roles over time.
Earlier the same day, Amazon announced grocery restructuring. The company will close Fresh stores and Go convenience locations.Instead, Amazon plans to invest more in Whole Foods and delivery. As a result, leadership roles will also change in that division. Amazon will report quarterly earnings on February 5. Therefore, investors expect more clarity soon.
