Arcade Shooter Oblitacrater Smashes onto PC and Consoles Today

Developer releases Oblitacrater, a slick arcade bullet hell shooter, now available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Oblitacrater arcade shooter drops players onto a planet to battle through endless waves of enemies. The premise focuses on high-risk, high-reward runs with one single score to build. Progress rewards you with upgrades for your adorable ship throughout each run. Death in Oblitacrater hits hard, and you must decide when to escape or risk losing everything. If you die, your running score resets to zero along with your leaderboard position. Escape successfully, and you can continue building your score on the next run. The game comes from what appears to be a solo developer.

Upgrade System and Bugs

Upgrades include range increases, movement speed, dodge speed, and secondary weapons like mines or rockets. Players can also pick a random upgrade with potential risks involved. Some upgrades might contain software bugs resulting in a “painful downgrade” according to the developers. A tutorial explains the mechanics, but like most bullet hell games, you learn through playing.
You collect essence from fallen enemies throughout each wave. When the bar fills, an upgrade triggers and crash lands onto the planet. Some pickups carry a chance to encounter a “bug” with a random slider bouncing back and forth. A mere 1 percent chance might cause negative effects like your main gun going offline for 15 seconds. Other times, that percentage can be much higher.

Hands-On Impressions

The game delivers a smooth experience across all platforms according to early testing. It works particularly well as a “quick run” game on handheld devices. The adorable ship design contrasts with the brutal difficulty of the bullet hell gameplay. A solo developer has created a neat little game worth checking out for genre fans.
The launch trailer showcases the colorful alien planet and intense bullet hell action. Progress equals rewards, but death resets your hard-earned score. The risk-reward mechanic adds tension to every run. Fans of arcade shooters should definitely give Oblitacrater a look.
