Bali Enforces Strict Visa Rules for Digital Content Makers

Indonesia has introduced tough new visa rules for foreign influencers in Bali. The regulations target content creators using tourist visas for commercial work. Posting sponsored content or promoting brands on a tourist visa is now illegal. Authorities actively monitor social media platforms for violations. The rules apply even if content is published after leaving Indonesia.

Prohibited Activities

The crackdown extends beyond paid partnerships. Unpaid collaborations, free stays, and product exchanges also count as work. Professional services like photography and makeup artistry are included. Immigration officers now patrol popular areas like Canggu and Ubud. They also review social media accounts for potential breaches.
The rules target anyone receiving economic benefits from their content. This includes free accommodation, meals, or services in exchange for posts. Even barter deals violate tourist visa conditions. Authorities classify these as commercial activities requiring proper permits.

Penalties and Alternatives

Penalties range from fines to deportation and lifetime bans. The Dharma Dewata Immigration Patrol Task Force has detained dozens of foreigners. Officials say the measures protect Bali’s tourism industry and maintain order.
Content creators needing to work should apply for appropriate visas. The C5A single-entry visa exists for monetized social media content. However, this option is not yet fully accessible on the official portal. Travelers can also consider business visas or the digital nomad visa.
